Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Lieta collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it. We tried to write it without lawyer-speak.
Who we are
Lieta (“Lieta”, “we”, “us”) is an AI wellness companion mobile application. You can reach us anytime at feedback@lieta-ai.com.
What Lieta is — and what it is not
Lieta is a reflective listening companion designed to help you process what’s on your mind. Lieta is not a therapist, clinician, or doctor. Lieta does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace professional mental-health care. If you are in crisis, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.
Data we collect
The categories of data Lieta collects, and where each lives:
- Your onboarding answers — nickname, optional name, optional email, mood at signup, what’s on your mind, sleep state, things that help you, one goal. These are stored only on your device using Android’s standard secure storage. They never leave the device unless you choose to send them.
- Your chat messages with Lieta — stored locally on your device (most recent ~40 messages). When you send a message, that message plus the recent context is sent to our chat backend (see “Where data goes”).
- Your settings — tone preference, theme preference, language preference. Stored on your device.
- An anonymous device identifier — a random string generated on first launch, used only for basic rate-limiting on our chat backend. It is not tied to your name, phone number, email, or any other personal identifier.
We do not collect:
- Your location.
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, camera, or other device data.
- Your real name (unless you choose to enter it).
- Your email address (unless you choose to enter it).
- Phone number, IMEI, advertising ID, biometric data, or payment information.
Where data goes
When you send a message, Lieta forwards your message and recent chat history to our chat backend (hosted on Microsoft Azure) over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The backend then sends that conversation to a large language model provider (currently OpenAI) to generate Lieta’s reply, and returns the reply to you.
Per OpenAI’s API data usage policy, messages sent through the OpenAI API are not used to train OpenAI’s models and are retained by OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse-prevention monitoring, then deleted.
We do not share your data with any other third party. We do not run ads. We do not sell your data — to anyone, ever.
How long we keep your data
- On your device: data stays until you delete it. Use Settings → Clear chat to delete chat history, or Settings → Reset everything to delete all locally stored data and start fresh.
- On our backend: we do not persist your messages. Each chat request is forwarded and the response is returned; we do not store the message contents server-side.
- At OpenAI: up to 30 days, then deleted, per OpenAI’s API policy.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. Most of this is one tap:
- Delete chat: Settings → Clear chat.
- Delete everything: Settings → Reset everything → deletes your profile, chats, and onboarding answers from your device.
- Uninstalling Lieta removes all locally stored data.
- Under the EU GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act, the California CCPA, and India’s DPDP Act, you have additional rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. To exercise any of these, write to feedback@lieta-ai.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Lieta is not intended for users under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Lieta, please contact us and we will delete any associated data.
Security
Communication between the app and our backend uses HTTPS / TLS encryption. Our backend is hosted on Microsoft Azure. We do not operate any user accounts, passwords, or stored personal databases on our infrastructure — most of your information lives only on your device.
No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly to feedback@lieta-ai.com.
Crisis and safety
Lieta is built to reflect, not to handle crisis situations. If you are in danger, in crisis, experiencing thoughts of suicide, or supporting someone who is, please reach out to a qualified professional or your local crisis services. Some options:
- India: iCall — 9152987821; Vandrevala Foundation — 1860-2662-345.
- United States: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741.
- United Kingdom: Samaritans — 116 123.
- Italy: Telefono Amico Italia — 02 2327 2327.
- Spain: Teléfono de la Esperanza — 717 003 717.
- European Union: 112 for emergencies; many countries also have national mental-health lines available via findahelpline.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Lieta evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app and on this page with a new “last updated” date. Continued use of Lieta after a change means you accept the updated policy.
